CAR BOMB DAMAGE, BELFAST, N. IRELANDTERRORIST TARGET: EUROPA HOTEL:
The Europa Hotel (building on right) was a frequent target for car bombs during the period of unrest in Northern Ireland. Blast protection was therefore a major consideration for adjacent buildings. McMullen blast mitigating glazing systems were installed to the Great Northern Towers development (building on left). Subsequent to completion of this project in 1994, a car bomb was detonated outside the Europa Hotel. The above photographs were taken the morning after. Damage to the Europa was extensive. Damage to Great Northern Towers was negligible.[click the image above to enlarge]
